When Google releases year-end and fourth quarter earnings this week, it will report a 20.2 percent lift in search ad revenue to $25.4 billion compared with the prior year. Revenue from display advertising will rise by an estimated 61 percent for the year.

The number of mobile phone ad impressions in the United Arab Emirates has surged by more than 50 percent, as the devices become the medium of choice for consumers accessing the Internet. The Nielsen Global Online Survey has found that 43 percent of Middle East consumers plan to use a mobile phone to access the Internet over the coming year.

Facebook is on track to generate more than $2 billion in ad revenues in 2010, far surpassing earlier estimates of $1 billion, and will likely skyrocket past that figure in 2011, as more marketers shift budgets from TV, radio, and print to the social realm.

The Global Markets Research Division from Deustche Bank published a report detailing a projected 11 percent increase in mobile advertising expenditure for 2011, a decrease of 3 percent from the 14 percent increase in mobile ad spending in 2010. The report was based on a survey of 31 major media buyers representing $5 billion in online ad spending.

Usablenet is an m-commerce provider with a really, really serious portfolio of happy clients. Within the last year it has created successful mobile properties for some serious retailers, including M&S and Chico’s. Now it has announced that PayPal’s Mobile Express Checkout will be integrated into its offering.

For retailers, both online and offline, that are still skeptical about mobility, 2011 may be a good year to take the plunge. That's because according to a survey conducted by SapientNitro, consumer habits finally caught up in a big way with expectations and hype last year.

eBay is out with its latest earnings report, and with it, some intriguing numbers about just how big of a role mobile commerce is starting to play in its business. eBay says that “nearly $2 billion” of its $53 billion in merchandise transactions took place via mobile phone.

Groupon announced recently that a recent Groupon for a fast food restaurant in Hong Kong helped sell over 70,000 hamburgers in less than 72 hours — 40,000 of which were sold in the first 24 hours following the initial offer.

In 2008 there were approximately 150,000 mobile ready websites. In just two years that number has risen to over three million. That growth, some say, is faster than the growth of desktop Internet over a similar period. Forty percent of the world’s top 1,000 websites now have a mobile version.

eMarketer predicts that social network advertising will account for nearly 11 percent of all online ad spending in the United States by the end of this year. According to the research firm, US marketers will spend a little over $3 billion to advertise on social networking sites this year, up 55 percent from the $1.99 billion advertisers devoted to social networks in 2010.

U.K. spending on mobile phone advertising is likely to grow from 46 million pounds ($71 million) in 2009 to 419 million pounds by 2015, boosted by the increasing popularity of smartphones, according to Enders Analysis, the Financial Times reported.
