Mobile app analytics firm Flurry is releasing a new report comparing the daily engagement of smartphone users on mobile apps vs. web browsing on the PC.  Games and social networking categories dominate, capturing 47 percent and 32 percent on consumer time spent daily, respectively. According to GSMA’s Mobile Media Metrics report, compiled together with comScore, Symbian accounted for just 1 percent of connected application users in the U.K. in April.  Apple's iOS took a 65 percent share, with Android accounting for 31 percent, and other platforms (BlackBerry, Windows Mobile/Phone, webOS and feature phones) taking a 3 percent share.  Read Original Content

Nielsen has released data from its regular survey of smartphone users which indicates data usage has surged year on year, growing from an average of 230 MB in first quarter 2010 to 435 MB in first quarter 2011.  Read Original Content

A Forrester report says mobile commerce is expected to reach $31 billion by 2016. While this represents a compounded annual growth rate of 39 percent from 2011 to 2016, mobile commerce is only expected to be 7 percent of overall eCommerce sales by 2016.  Read Original Content

IDC forecasts 472 million smartphone shipments in 2011, and indicates that by the end of 2015, shipments will increase to 982 million.  Read Original Content

Microsoft's Windows Phone, which also currently includes its aging Windows Mobile system, will go from a weak fifth place of 3.8 percent share this year to a strong second place of 20.3 percent in 2015, largely on the strength of the Nokia deal, IDC said.  Read Original Content
